CEOs are people of action. We tackle weighty challenges, we find solutions to problems, and we are never satisfied with the status quo. CEO WATTAGE was created to tackle what might be the single largest opportunity facing women in business today: changing the ratio of female representation at the highest levels – specifically at the very top – within businesses of all sizes.
Both of us have day jobs: we run our own companies and face the daily struggles that come with entrepreneurship, from strategic to tactical, and being a leader. Neither of us were content operating within what felt like a perpetual silo. We needed a network, a cohort of other leaders who faced the same challenges. Specifically, we wanted a network of other women CEOs.
Over the past year or so we have brought together a fantastic group of women leaders. Through our monthly dinners we have found support and camaraderie, as well as valuable advice, connections and opportunities to help drive our own businesses forward.
As our network continued to grow, it became apparent there was a need that extended beyond our own circle. By formalizing our group and launching CEO WATTAGE, we aspire to add more women to the top. We will achieve this through direct and deliberate means, including the sharing of stories, the passing of knowledge, and acting as mirrors for one another.
Greater impact will be achieved together through our combined efforts: by making more women aware of opportunities and, ultimately, changing perceptions around the role and persona of CEOs, we aim to inspire other women in their advancement to the top. As the Economist put it, "At the end of the day, we simply lack enough compelling models for what female power should look like."
In our series of stories, you will be introduced to some extraordinary women leaders and their organizations. You will hear from tech entrepreneurs, a fashion pioneer with a fascinating background, tastemakers for huge brands, innovators in education, in distribution, in healthcare. These women with audacious goals have fought against convention and statistics to spearhead change in their own lives, organizations and industries.
We are so grateful to the women we have met, and the women we have yet to meet as part of this project. Thank you for taking the time to read our stories, to see yourself in these stories, and share in our experiences to join us at the top.
Together, we have the chance to make a real difference for women and business.
